about us

Over the course of its nearly 50-year history, The Arts Center of the Capital Region has carved out a distinctive - and deeply personal - role among the region's thriving cultural institutions, as a unique venue that provides thousands of adults and children each year with hands-on, up-close encounters with their own creativity and previously untapped talents. Today, The Arts Center provides a wide range of programs and services to more than 35,000 people a year.

And that's just for starters.

In addition to offering a wide range of classes in the visual, literary and performing arts, The Arts Center maintains a varied and growing portfolio of programs and services for artists, audiences, and organizations.

One of the best known and most prominent of these is an ambitious and highly acclaimed exhibitions program featuring contemporary art. Noted for both its quality and its range, The Arts Center gallery program attracts 12,000 visitors each year and has drawn media attention not only regionally, but by such publications as The New York Times and Art New England, the Associated Press and even London's contemporary art publication, The Art Newspaper.

In other popular programming, the center offers a wide variety of vacation arts camps for children and teens, administers a multi-county grants program for artists and organizations, holds professional development courses for artists, and more.
