This is a two credit course. Special registration polices apply; please call 273-0552. Introduction to the craft of picture framing as it applies to drawings, watercolors, paintings, photography, works on canvas, needlework, etc. French matting, glass cutting, stretcher construction, and canvas preparation, proper use of tools, and aesthetics will be thoroughly explored. Issues of preservation, stabilization of works on paper and canvas will be discussed. Students should bring samples to frame to the first class. This course involves the use of hand tools requiring fine motor coordination.

In this class, students will explore the craft of cutting mats, designing embellishments, and using a variety of specialized techniques, including bevels, french matting, v-groove and fabric matting. Give that framed-something an extra special presentation!

Spending a fortune on framing your artwork for exhibitions? Do it yourself! Discover a basic introduction to the craft of picture framing as it applies to drawings, watercolors, paintings, photography, works on canvas, needlework, etc. French matting, glass cutting, stretcher construction, and canvas preparation, proper use of tools and aesthetics will be thoroughly explored. Issues of preservation, stabilization of works on paper and canvas will be discussed. Students should bring samples to frame to the first class. For this introductory course, size must be limited to 16” x 20”. No class on 11/25 and 12/23.
