Pen Turning: Making Pens out of Wood

Instructor: John Kingsley

Learn how to turn a pen on a lathe. Use your imagination and create a unique writing instrument that only you can claim to own. Learn about the tools and how to use them. The basic turning skills are easy to acquire and can be a launching point for your entry into the art of woodturning which includes things like bowls and vessels.


Woodworking for Women

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make something from a piece of wood but were afraid to ask?  Well, this class is for you!  It's a class designed for women only.  Learn about working with wood, an amazing material, as you explore creative work with hand- and machine-tool techniques.  Each student will complete the class with a finished garden tote box.

This is a two credit course. Special registration polices apply; please call 273-0552. An introductory course in woodcarving with relief and chip carving techniques. Includes the techniques of hand carving, stamping, varnishing and staining. Students will receive individualized attention and instruction. Students should bring their own murphy knife, chip knife and safety gloves. This course involves the use of hand tools requiring fine motor coordination.

The techniques covered in this woodworking class will include the basic building blocks for all furniture construction. Furniture joinery (dovetail, half-lap and doweling) and a variety of wood finishing techniques will be included. This course involves the use of hand tools requiring fine motor coordination.


Furniture Making III

This is a two credit course. Special registration polices apply; please call 273-0552. Students will design and construct a piece of furniture from their own original drawings, from wood selection and preparation to the completed object. They will demonstrate proficiency in more complicated uses of mortise and tenon, wood bending, and frame and panel construction. Students will refine advanced skills with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship. This course involves the use of hand tools requiring fine motor coordination.


Advanced Furniture Making II
Tuesday, 10/5/2010 - 12/7/2010, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Instructor: Robert Kehn

This is a two credit course. Special registration polices apply; please call 273-0552. The study and practice of advanced techniques of furniture making; review and refinement of hand-joining techniques; the techniques of frame and panel construction; wood bending processes and gluing will be taught and practiced in this workshop. A final project incorporating learned techniques is required. This course involves the use of hand tools requiring fine motor coordination.
