Children will have an opportunity to create works of art inspired by the natural world around them.  Each of the projects they engage in will guide them to think about caring for our earth and keeping it beautiful.  Most of the pieces they create will utilize reusable/recycled materials, including bird feeders, hand-bound notebooks, and sock creatures. Students are asked to bring 1 old sock, 2 old, white/light-colored plain t-shirts or pillowcases and 1 or 2 clean glass jars with lids, such as a pasta sauce jar.

The second week will involve creating a unique presentation of the students’ stories and plays for a friends and family audience on the final day of camp.

Instructor: Ira Marcks | www.witchknots.com

Bam!  Zing!  Crash!  Do you ever wish you had super powers?  Or maybe that you could draw characters with super powers?  Maybe you already have a character and you want to learn how to work with it?  This week we’ll draw some existing cartoons, and make up our own.  We’ll make comic strips and put them together into our own class comic book.  We’ll learn about animation and make real animation cells!  We’ll make large stand-ups of our characters, and we’ll even make small sculptures of some of our creations!  Don’t forget your cape and x-ray vision!

Wacky World!
Monday – Friday, 8/23/10 – 8/27/10,9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M.
Members: $235 | Non-Members: $250 | Studio Fee: $35
Instructor: Matthew Shropshire

Be the architect of the wackiest world ever! You will use your imagination to design and construct a unique, fun-filled town. In order to build this fabulous town you will need to know how buildings stand up and what makes one different from the one next store. So first, we will go on a scavenger hunt in downtown Troy in search of lions, bells, domes and gargoyles and figure out what makes a building special. Then we'll use all these ideas as we build our wacky world.

Monsters Mania

Instructor: Kim Carr

Monsters high, monsters low, monsters everywhere you go! They're lurking and smirking, hopping and dropping and popping out, too! Bring your nightmares to life and they won’t bug you anymore at night. In this camp, you'll draw what you dream and make your pictures come alive through stories and costumes, paper mache, Sculpey clay, masks, and more!

Winter Break Camp: Time Travel!
Monday - Friday, 12/27/2010 - 12/31/2010, 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.
Members: $175 | Non-Members: $190 | Studio Fee: $20
Instructor: TBA

As the first decade of the new millennium comes to a close, young artists will take a look back...and forward! Students will create projects based on the sights and sounds of the the future, as well as eras gone-by, like the roaring '20s, the swinging '60s, and Troy's Golden Era in the late 1800's. Step into the time machine, with a little imagination, and plenty of art supplies!
